This was one of my favorite hiking spots since the 80's when i was about 13 years old. There is or was a tunnel under the big rock at the main falls we user to dive under and come out on the other side. And there was a swing rope back then. During those years there was a moderate amount of trash and people living in that canyon over the years. Nice to hear they cleaned it up. Will never forget jesus rock and that canyon.

Hi Don,

Thank you for the thoughtful comment - you're absolutely right that multiple perspectives are possible, and I appreciate you sharing yours.

Having not been at the canyon (nor even quite yet born) in those years, it's good to hear a counterpoint to the newspaper clippings we saw at the visitor's center, which were definitely squarely on the squares' side.

Finding naked women at a river is something all of us straight guys can agree is awesome ;)

Best of luck in your search.

Kind regards,
     Adam

As usual, there are two sides to every story.

I "lived" in Taquitz Canyon for a about a year in 1970-71.

As a "true" hippie, I never damaged the Canyon or the Falls. I either burned, or took all liter into town. I also do not remember seeing any paint spraying, and certainly did not add any myself.

I found peace in the "Falls" at a time in my life when all seemed lost. The Canyon and Falls may have saved my life.

One morning I woke up from my cave and discovered a beautiful, dark, naked young woman sitting on a rock next to the river. She was reading a book while her dog, Christy, swam in the water.

That young woman, Hallett Reed, became my companion/spouse.

She happen to be living in a tree house, not far from Taquitz, and we eventually began hitchhiking to Seattle, with alot of stops along the way.

I lost track of Hallett. If anyone knows her, please let her know I still remember her.

I would like to go back and visit Taquitz Falls, which would be Gods' will.

Well.... Pretty much any falls in a national park is not free, and there is a long history of people trespassing, and afterall, it is private, not public land, so the tribe can charge what it wishes. $12.50 is pretty high, though!

I did climb the hill North of the beginning of that trail and I did it for free. I don't understand that fee of $12.50 to use that trail that ends up with a fall. How many falls did I see across the World without paying an extra??? Most of them!

The cost of having a trail ...

Let the people going for free to see those falls and the trails would quickly be done.
