Great photo! That’s another thing I really miss about living in the southwest.
Thanks – we got a kick out of seeing a good variety of interesting herps. The ones we have here are teeny.
Super — that little guy really knows how to strike a pose…
Not so little – was at least 8″!
Adam-
As you may or may not know, there is a special place in my heart for herps. One Sceloporus, the eastern fence lizard, makes it into southern Ohio, but I have never had the opportunity to photograph them. What a great looking lizard, and I love that silky smoooooth bokeh.

Glad you like it! I have a handful more herp photos coming (Chukwalla, Desert Iguana (I think), and a couple others that I haven’t IDed yet)
Stunning colors and details. WOW
Thanks, Thomas!
Adam, the title of your post had me wondering!
I actually was thinking you were referring to your own backyard here in the Bay Area. Well, now that I realize it was from your trip, I can relax. Great photos — don’t you wish our little lizards around here had such a beautiful color?
The post title is a reference to an old Dead Milkmen album
I took these photos through the living room window of the house we stayed at. Fortunately the window was very clean!
Very nice Adam… don’t you just love how lizards are great at posing?
Yep, especially when they do push-ups (this one didn’t, but others we saw later did)) – they look so funny, although I’m sure it’s for thermal regulation or mate selection or something.
what a good looking guy; his stance says he knows he’s the stud of the lizard world!
Cracks me up! I never knew that lizards had eyebrows until now!
Yeah, whoda thunk? He certainly is the master of his little patch if rock.
beautiful portraits!
Thanks, Ankush!
