Yeah, I didn't notice it until she mentioned it either.

I agree with you inasmuch as the several drive through trees did serve in some way to get people interested in nature, but IMO the skinned "Mother of the Forest" (the "Ruin" above) is totally inexusable. Even in that less conservation-minded time, people were outraged that the tree was skinned alive.

Interesting that Red pointed out the old woman in picture #5. I never would have noticed it if she hadn't referred to it. Chalk it up to creative imagination. Nice going, Red! Funny how I don't think I've ever been to Big Trees, but I have seen the sequoias in Sequoia Nat Park. They are so awesome. My opinion of those "stupid human tricks" -- that was a good way to "advertise" some of Mother Nature's best features, especially during those days when travel and vacationing were not the norm. Those were the days when preservation and conservation were not your ordinary everyday vocabulary. We are a much better educated population nowadays - yet I still see a lot of stupidity going on. ;o)

I've driven or been driven through a few of the drive through trees too (there are at least 3 that I know of in CA, one still drive-through'able). Relics of a different era, thankfully
