Sandpiper: No need to be sorry, as your comments are welcome at any time!

I'm sorry to be so slow in responding to this fantastic post. I wanted to be sure I could take my time reading it and enjoy all your great pictures! They are wonderful! The wingspan of the skua really surprised me! I had no idea. And I've never heard of penguin burrows either. Amazing to see all of those holes. What a fantastic trip this was. With each visit to your blog, I learn new things. Thanks for your hard work in posting these chapters to share with us.

If there would be any votes taken I would have to vote for the rufous-chested dotterel. That is a cute bird; it reminds me of a killdeer or plover. I have a feeling it is from the same family of plovers. Do you know if it is? I also like your photo of that rainbow - so cool, Adam. And again, as usual, a really good description of your trip. Thanks again for sharing it with us.

ScienceGuy: Yep, the Skuas were great to watch, such fierce, aggressive birds, and so good at what they do!

Lori: How cool would it be? Very cool, I can tell you :) I'm with you - the only seabirds I see are the coastal ones, which most of them are not. I'll have to drum up the courage to take a pelagic trip to the Farallone Islands, a marine sanctuary 30 miles (uggh) west of San Francisco that's well-known for its birds (and sharks, and rough waters).

Oh my gosh - now how cool would it be to see an albatross? I would have loved that. I also (side note) really think the beak on the Giant Petrel - that "tube nose" is really wild and certainly something I've never seen before. Very cool. I again just love the penguin shots (my favs are 4 & 7 & the three at the end. Nice shots what a fabulous bird! I love the Cormorants shots as well - what an interesting bird. I rarely see sea birds but if I could an albatross and penguin would so be at the top of my list! Exellent lifers!
