Yesterday Sarah & I swung by the south side of Lake Merced in between errands to do a little walking and birding. We’ve both been sick for the past week, and many of the recent’ish weekend days have been rainy, so we were eager to get out and do at least a little something!
As 1) I’m still a little sick, and 2) have a healing tattoo on my camera-carrying shoulder, I left the SLR at home – just as well, as no great photo ops presented themselves anyways! Still it was a lovely little walk along the concrete bridge, from which we looked in vain for some recently-reported Wood Ducks, but saw mostly Coots, Mallards, and Western Gulls. Around the tip of the lake we saw many Eared Grebes, several (probable) Western Grebes, and a dozen or so Pied-billed Grebes, and nothing much was out along the southeast shore.
